New site

That NAV Guy has a new home.
After several years on WordPress, I finally made the move. WordPress has served me well, but I had been wanting to move to a simpler static HTML.
The site is now built with Astro, the source lives on GitHub, and deploys using Vercel. Astro generates pure static HTML. It’s modern, pages load fast, deployment is instant, and my posts are just Markdown files sitting in a GitHub repo. That suits me quite well.
The migration
Two hundred posts going back to 2019. I used wordpress-export-to-markdown to convert the WordPress XML export into Markdown files. It handled most of it cleanly: content, dates, tags, images. The older posts still need some cleanup but the recent stuff came across well.
I used AI to help me with the design and the migration. The hardest part was letting go of trying to make it perfect. It’s good enough. It’ll get better over time. The comments section is gone as well because there is no db. At least for now.
What’s the same
Everything that matters. BC Friday Tips continues. The UX Series is still here. All the old posts are still accessible.
Just faster. And better.
